I draw things.
Portrait of the artist
After being bitten by a radioactive pencil.
Being alive is weird; I draw funny stuff about it.
My work is influenced by picture books, Lowbrow, cartoons, Americana, any culture with a bad attitude, and has been most often described as ‘HA!’ or 'Aww.' It’s been said to flirt with a dangerous sense of humor and is probably fun to look at by children aged 2 to 67.2, the average life expectancy in the world today.
Why the heck do I make art?
When I was trying to decide what to do for college, I knew I wanted to do something creative. It was hard to find purpose in my life so I really leaned into my existential crisis and decided to do something that was fun and peaceful even if it wouldn't save the world. I went to art school to be a children's book illustrator.
Three and a half years later, in my final semester, I realized I didn't want to be a children's book illustrator.
Lately, I often describe my work as single-panel comics. They're noodley, cute, irreverent, and subversive. My characters often look like they've had mere seconds to figure out they are in existence. They realize pretty quickly that stuff's gone bad.
I'm constantly learning more about myself as an artist. Social media sites make it hard to remember that all artists deal with insecurities and failures, but I've been realizing more lately that we all feel that to an extent. I'm feeling more confident in what I do and I'm finding more people who connect with trying to find some humor in this dust bin called life.
